It’s usually a cheap, worth-it fix. The coil set is one of the smallest parts in a gas dryer, the symptom is unmistakable (heats, then quits after a few minutes), and the repair is panel-off work; the whole gas valve assembly is only in play if the coils meter healthy.
⚠️Gas first, meter second. Shut the gas supply cock and unplug the dryer before opening the panel, and if you ever smell gas, stop and call your gas utility before anything else. Coil symptoms are heat-then-quit: meter the coils before assuming the valve is dead.
