Whirlpool Dryer Belt: Cost & When It’s Not Worth It
$140–320 total (shop) · $11–30 DIY part
Part prices $11–30 on eBay (checked 2026-11-04) · shop total from published rates ($70–130 service call, $50–125/hr) · estimates, not quotes
It’s one of the cheapest repairs in the house. The drum belt is a low-cost part and the drum comes off the front on these dryers; a shop visit prices mostly out of the service call itself.
⚠️The restring is the fiddly part, not the belt. First-time fixers in the walkthrough comments agree on the two slow spots: routing the belt around the idler tensioner and getting the front panel back on square. Unplug the dryer first, and while the drum is out, spin the idler pulley; a seized idler will chew through a new belt in months.
Your model number decides which part you need.
